1. Hi Jeremy, can you introduce yourself in one sentence and share three verbs that best describe you?

I'm Jeremy Tong (@jeremytongclimbs) also known as Singapore Mountain Explorer, Climber, Speaker and Educator. I'm driven, outdoorsy, and sociable.

2. What’s your favorite part about nature?

Nature helps calm me down and keeps me humbled.

3. What first sparked your passion for outdoor adventures, and how has that evolved over the years?

I began trekking in Malaysia at the age of 14, starting with Mount Ophir/Gunung Ledang. Since my first ascent, I've climbed 51 mountains, including Mount Everest and five of the Seven Summits. I'm still actively pursuing the remaining summits. My passion has evolved into JTRACE, a company that offers personalized mountain expeditions in eight countries.

4. Could you share with us your most memorable adventure so far and why it stands out?

My most memorable adventure so far would be that of my 2019 Everest Expedition where I successfully made it to the top of the world. It took me 2 months to climb this mountain and moreover, this was my 2nd Attempt. My first attempt was in 2017.

When I was climbing, I encountered Typhoon Fani at camp 2 (6400m), -40 degree temperatures, a lack of oxygen and the human traffic jam from South Summit to the summit at 8700m.

On the way down, my oxygen masks encountered some problems and my eyes were blurred from the wind and snow.

It took me 24 hours to climb from Camp 4 (8000m) to the summit and then back down to camp 2 at 6400m.

At the end of the expedition, I lost a part portion of my left earlobe to frost nip and also lost a friend of mine to the mountain.

It was the most memorable and fulfilling expedition I have ever done.

5. What challenges have you faced in your journey as a mountaineer, and how have you overcome them?

As a mountaineer, I've confronted numerous challenges, including Acute Mountain Sickness, Frostbite, Hypothermia, funding limitations, and expedition leadership.
To overcome these obstacles, I've focused on rigorous training, self-awareness, effective marketing strategies, and building strong connections within the mountaineering community.

6. What does “adventure” mean to you in your everyday life, beyond the outdoor pursuits?

Adventure is a way of life for me. It's about stepping outside my comfort zone and pushing my boundaries.

7. What advice would you give to someone looking to break out of their comfort zone and embrace a more adventurous lifestyle?

The hardest part is taking that first step. Once you do, it becomes easier and more exciting. Just remember to push yourself gradually and enjoy the journey.
