“We all have this potential, but we must change who we are at the core, because we attract who we become.” — Scott, Co-Founder of Beyond Expeditions
“Live with purpose, act with heart, and trust that even the smallest ripples create waves of change.” — Kavita, Co-Founder of Beyond Expeditions

Meet Scott and Kavita, the heart and soul behind Beyond Expeditions, a Singapore-based adventure travel company founded in 2017. Built on the belief that exploration can be a force for good, Beyond Expeditions was born out of a desire to inspire purposeful journeys, deeper human connection, and a sense of shared responsibility for the Earth we all call home.
Together, they’ve led expeditions across the globe, pushing boundaries, creating impact, and empowering communities along the way. Scott thrives on challenge, constantly testing limits. Kavita brings grounding, compassion, and a belief in the ripple effect of every action.
We asked the co-founders about the paths that shaped them and how this latest chapter in Madagascar came to be.
🔍 7 Questions with Scott & Kavita of Beyond Expeditions
Can you take us back to the first moment in nature that truly changed you?
Scott: Over a decade ago, I set foot in Mongolia for the first time and it completely shifted me. Out in the vast countryside, time seemed to pause. The silence, the rawness, the sheer stillness of the land, it brought me a deep sense of peace I had never felt before. Coming from the hustle of Singapore, that experience stripped everything back. I wasn’t just in nature, I was part of it. That meditative stillness with the nomads awakened something in me that’s stayed ever since.
Kavita: There’s a moment that hits you when you’re out there in the wild with no noise, no buildings, and no distractions. Just you and the elements. For me, it was in a place so vast and untouched that it made me feel incredibly small. Not in a way that made me feel less, but in a way that made me realize how little we actually are in the grand scheme of things. Out there, surrounded by the raw power of nature, you realize you’re not in control. You’re not the main character. You’re just part of something much bigger. That perspective changed everything for me. It stripped away the ego, the rush, the noise, and brought me into something deeper and more honest. That’s when I knew I wasn’t just passing through nature. I was finally part of it.
What’s one place on Earth that made you feel most alive, and why?
Scott: It used to be Mongolia, hands down, it’s like my second home, having visited more than 30 times. But after years on the road, something within me changed. Today, I’ve come to realise that aliveness isn’t tied to a place anymore. It’s a state of being. Whether I’m in the wild or at home, I carry that same feeling with me. That’s the beauty of evolving through travel, it transforms your inner world too.
Kavita: For me, it’s not about a place. Feeling alive is a state of mind, and I find it most in solitude. When I’m alone with no one around, that’s when I feel the most free, the most true to myself. Solitude sharpens my senses and softens my mind. It brings me back to who I am.
Since starting Beyond Expeditions, how has your idea of adventure evolved?
Scott: Adventure is no longer just about the mountains or the miles. For us at Beyond Expeditions, it’s a path to inner transformation. When people are pushed out of their comfort zones, facing the elements, the silence, the unknown, they meet their true selves. Adventure becomes a mirror. It shows you your limits, but it also shows you your strength. And when you realise you’re stronger than you thought, that’s where the magic happens.
Kavita: I’ve always believed adventure starts with the right mindset. Since starting Beyond Expeditions, that belief has only deepened. The destinations we travel to are not your typical tourist stops. They challenge you to leave behind the comforts and expectations of city life. My idea of adventure has evolved from chasing adrenaline to embracing transformation. It’s about unlearning, adapting, and being open to how nature and culture change you from the inside out.
Why did you choose Madagascar for Beyond Limits 9? What makes it special to you and the team?
Scott: Madagascar shook us deeply. Kavita and I visited a rock factory there, where four generations work under the sun and rain, earning less than 2 euros a day. We saw kids with no chance at education, trapped in a cycle they didn’t choose. That moment stayed with us. We knew we couldn’t just walk away. So we made a decision: Beyond Limits 9 would be for them. A trek with purpose. To raise awareness and funds so these kids can finally go to school, and maybe, dream a little bigger.
Kavita: When Scott and I visited Madagascar a few years ago, we stumbled upon a rock factory. What we saw was heartbreaking. Generations of one family, from a toddler to a grandmother, all working under the sun, breaking rocks for less than 2 euros a day. That image stayed with us. We later learned that thousands of children are born into this cycle with no access to education. Last year, we raised enough to get 75 kids into school. But that was just one year and just 75 kids. We knew we had to do more. So Beyond Limits 9 became a mission to raise enough to build a school, to support these kids long term, and to give them something they’ve never had; a chance to dream.
When preparing for an expedition, what do you look for in gear that needs to go the distance?
Scott: Simplicity, durability, and comfort. The right gear is the quiet companion that sees you through the toughest terrain. A good high-cut waterproof boot with solid grip can make or break a trek. When you’re covering long distances through wild, untouched terrain, gear becomes your lifeline. It’s not about having the fanciest, it’s about having what works when nothing else does.
Kavita: My approach to gear is simple. I focus on what I’ll be using the most throughout the expedition. That is where I choose to invest my energy, money, and attention. For example, trekking boots can make or break a journey. You want something durable, comfortable, and already broken in before you hit the trail. The same goes for your backpack. That load is going to be with you every step, so it needs to fit well and support your movement without weighing you down. Even your clothing matters. You are not walking through a park in Singapore. You will be exposed to the sun, wind, and terrain for hours on end, so what you wear must match the environment. I don’t chase the latest trend. I choose what lasts, what performs, and what truly supports me out there.
Do you have any personal rituals or routines before heading out on a major journey?
Scott: Always. I take a moment to pause and pray. Not in a religious way, but to connect with the universe, to express gratitude for what’s to come, and to trust that we’re guided and protected. I believe every expedition unfolds exactly as it’s meant to, and this ritual helps me align with that deeper flow.
Kavita: Yes, I do. I believe how you prepare shapes how you experience the journey. I start by intensifying my training. I make sure my body is ready to take on long days and challenging terrain. I clean up my nutrition, stay hydrated, and build routines that support strength and endurance. I also train my mind. That means putting myself in discomfort here at home so that I am better prepared for the unknown out there. Whether it is carrying a weighted backpack or running in the rain, it is about meeting challenge before it meets me. This way, I step into each expedition grounded, strong, and ready for whatever comes.
What’s one meaningful lesson you’ve learned from the communities you’ve connected with on your travels?
Scott: You don’t need much to give. The Mongolian nomads taught me this. They have little by modern standards, but they give with their whole heart. Hospitality, food, shelter, no questions asked. That taught me that abundance isn’t what’s in your wallet, it’s what’s in your spirit. When you give from that place, the universe always gives back.
Kavita: One thing I’ve come to realize is that what we call basic needs, like food, shelter, and family time, is often just the starting point for us in places like Singapore. We live with convenience, abundance, and constant access to more. But in the communities I’ve met on the road, especially in rural areas from India to Mongolia, those same basic needs are everything, and yet they give so much more from the heart. I’ve been welcomed with full attention, offered meals that could have been their last, and received warmth and generosity that came with no expectations. It made me question how often we, in our comfort, give wholeheartedly. True abundance, I’ve learned, is not in what we have but in how willingly we give, and these communities embody that every single day.
