Teva sandals are built for life outdoors, from everyday walks to epic adventures. And that means they’re gonna get dirty. They’re supposed to get dirty.
Fortunately, cleaning a pair of Teva sandals is easy and requires almost no special equipment. Regular cleaning will prolong the life of your sandals and taking care of your gear to last many seasons helps combat overconsumption—an essential step in the ongoing journey towards sustainability. Let’s take a look at the best way to clean odors and dirt from Teva sandals.
WHAT NOT TO DO WHEN CLEANING YOUR TEVA SANDALS
We don’t recommend washing your Teva sandals in the washing machine. The machine’s movements could damage the sandals, and the process is much less precise than washing them by hand.
It’s important that you don’t clean every part of your sandals the same way. Leather and nubuck require a more careful approach, so be mindful. Once you’re done, make sure not to dry your sandals in direct sunlight to avoid any shrinkage. Instead, air dry them inside or in a shaded area outside.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Cleaning your sandals is a pretty simple process. Here’s what you’ll need:
- Earth-friendly, biodegradable soap or mild soap
- Water
- Soft-bristled toothbrush or soft brush
- Bucket
- Nubuck leather cleaner (if needed)*
*Check the label on your leather cleaner to make sure it’s made for the type of leather on your sandal.
HOW DO I DEEP CLEAN MY TEVA SANDALS?
The best way to deep clean your Teva sandals is by hand in the sink or with a bucket. This method will take care of all but the absolute toughest stains.
WASH YOUR TEVA SANDALS IN THE SINK OR BUCKET
- Apply lukewarm soapy water to sandals, dip brush in water and scrub.
2. Wash the top and bottom, making sure to clean all nooks and crannies.
3. Gently bend sandals from heel to toe under water pressure to loosen up any dried dirt.
4. Thoroughly rinse sandals and dry straps with a towel.
5. Let the sandals air dry in a shaded well-ventilated area. Do not leave sandals in direct sunlight for an extended period of time because some of the foam materials might shrink.
DISINFECTING YOUR TEVA SANDALS
There’s no need to worry about disinfecting your sandals. Our sandals are treated with an antimicrobial solution that reduces odor and prevents bacteria growth. Other disinfecting methods often use alcohol or chlorine, which can interfere with the antimicrobial treatments and cause colors to fade—we don’t recommend them.
Pretty simple, right? Cleaning your sandals is an easy way to take care of your favorite adventure companion for your next road trip, music festival, day hike, and everything in between.
